The Rod Squad

"The Reel Rod Squad - Pick up a rod not a knife"

The Reel Rod Squad are providing a sport which is currently not easily accessible to young people in a safe environment. It offers full day opportunities in areas where youngsters say there is nothing to keep them occupied.

The project aims to help combat knife crime in the community, this being our main objective; we give youngsters the opportunity at this sport which offers amazing head space and relief from the stresses of day to day life. Rather than them being on the streets and possibly being victim of peer pressure this is a no pressure stress free enviroment which is only best described by taking part yourself.

We also support children with disabilities; a vast amount of our youngsters are autistic or have been diagnosed with adhd. Whilst holding our events parents themselves say it has done amazing things for their children. Their concentration has increased beyond what they could imagine and they have never known their children to respond to a sport in this way.

We help bring families together; not only are we focused on getting youngsters to the sport of fishing but the connection it’s making between families is an unexpected achievement. Rather than parents watching from a distance like most sports, parents are getting hands on with these activities creating that family bond which is missing from a lot of households today. We had a lot of parents thank us and say this is the most time they have spent with there children/grandchildren in such a long time.
